IDI’s ProLITE is a compact radiation barrier system for use in cardiac cath labs.
The system was designed to provide comprehensive bilateral radiation protection
to the the entire interventional team while greatly extending protection to exposed areas
normally not protected by shielding material.

WHY CHOOSE ProLite?
- Improves the radiation safety in the interventional suite for all Team members
- Cost effective comprehensive protection System
- Over 92% full body protection for most Team members
- First step towards apron-free interventions
- Utilizes a component of the proven technology derived from the Protego “Apron Free” Radiation Protection System

PROTECTION
- Unique “Box” Concept contains radiation underneath the table
- Consistent coverage with overlapping side shields
- Critical areas of protection exceed 1.50 mm lead equivalence
- Long extended side shields & pedestal shield expand room coverage
- Cost-effective solution decreases radiation exposure
- Adds a nominal amount of weight to the table
EASY ADOPTION
- Superior radiation protection for the whole interventional team
- Bilateral sides of the room enhanced protection
- Suitable for structural and general cardiac interventions and most interventional procedures
- Attached to the table on existing medical rails
- Reuseable patient scatter shields.
QUALITY OF LIFE
Studies show the negative long-term results of radiation exposure on surgical staff, including brain tumors, cataracts, spinal disk injury, and other life-impacting problems.
All of this adds up to reduced quality of life, missed work, and shorter careers.
The ProLITE Radiation Protection System can reduce staff radiation exposure and help improve long-term health, job satisfaction, and career longevity.
I have been exposed to the equivalent of 30,000 chest x-rays.
I don’t want any more.

ProLITE FAQS
HOW DID THE ProLITE SYSTEM COME TO BE DEVELOPED?
The creation and subsequent evolution of the Protego and ProLite designs began nearly 20 years ago as an effort by a leading Michigan cardiologist to reduce and eventually eliminate physician and staff exposure to x-ray scatter during procedures.
The initial concept resulted in a design that was essentially a tall leaded vinyl wall separating the patient from the cardiologist. Not only was it intimidating to the patient, but it also limited the C-Arm angulation required for common views and was challenging to drape. From a proof-of-concept standpoint, it did protect the entire team.
The Protego was certified for Apron-free use in interventional cardiology cases in 2021 by the State of Michigan. The Prolite takes key components from the proven Protego concept and enhances whole-body radiation safety for all Team members at a reduced cost. Key “Smart Lead” components slide over your existing table rails, other components reside on the tabletop and there are reusable patient scatter shields for radial and femoral access procedures.
IS ProLITE AVAILABLE FOR MY CATH LAB SYSTEM?
ProLITE is currently available for Philips, Siemens, GE and Toshiba Cath lab systems. Call (978) 829-0009 with questions or request a quote online.
HOW MUCH RADIATION-SHIELDING PROTECTION CAN I EXPECT FROM ProLITE?
DO I NEED TO WEAR A LEAD APRON OR OTHER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE APPAREL DURING A CASE WITH ProLITE?
We suggest that until all members of the Team are well-versed and proficient in the draping process and installation and that Team members wear some form of real-time (Ray Safe) dosimetry (thyroid and waist) to confirm that the system has been draped properly.
The ProLITE Shielding system is built upon overlapping layers of scatter-absorbing materials, which must always be in place to prevent shielding leakage. When deployed, draped, and configured as defined within our manual and demonstrated throughout our in-service and training process, the ProLITE Shielding system provides comprehensive, enhanced radiation protection. The protection afforded by ProLITE is predicated on correct positioning and use. Your Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) may allow for lightweight lead aprons after reviewing dose data. ProLite is not a “Apron Free” radiations system, it enhances and provides a higher level or protection over a wider area that your current PPE construct.
The elimination of personal protection devices and apparel during the use of ProLite is at the discretion and approval of the hospital Radiation physicist. It is subject to each hospital’s radiation safety policy and protocols.
WHAT KIND OF DOSE REDUCTION SHOULD I EXPECT FROM USING THE PROLITE?
IDI is constantly monitoring ProLITE’s clinical performance. Recent data shows reductions of 90% to 93% while using cine or fluoroscopy modes. The system’s coverage area is approximately one-half of the room, providing coverage for all the Team and clinical staff.
CAN RADIAL ACCESS PROCEDURES BE PERFORMED USING ProLITE?
Yes – both radial and femoral access are possible.
HOW DOES THE ProLITE IMPACT MY CURRENT WORKFLOW?
There is a nominal impact on workflow. Set up takes less than 90 seconds. After the patient is loaded on the table:
- The IDI radial Armboard is positioned.
- The patient shields are placed.
- The side shield is then put in position.
